2024 Ribolla Gialla

Ree-bohl-lah jahl-lah: Ribolla Gialla is a traditional grape variety from the Friuli region of northeastern Italy, known for its vibrant acidity and ability to produce wines with remarkable texture and depth. In 2019, we became the first Tasmanian vineyard to import Ribolla Gialla cuttings from Chalmers Nursery in Victoria, with the aim of exploring its potential in Tasmania’s unique climate. Fascinated by the grape’s ability to express its terroir through extended skin contact, we saw Ribolla Gialla as a variety with great promise.

This inaugural release, crafted from the 2024 vintage, is a testament to that vision, with just 617 bottles produced.

The wine displays a golden honey colour, the result of 28 days of skin contact. Wild fermented and matured in terracotta amphora and seasoned French oak barrels, the nose is delicate yet expressive, offering notes of chamomile and spice.  There’s also a faint hint of beeswax, adding a textured element. On the palate, the wine is fresh, with flavours of baked apple and tangerine, and citrus and beeswax. Its mineral character is prominent, providing a clean, dry finish with a subtle herbal touch of thyme. The wine’s crisp, dry finish, with its balancing minerality and herbal notes, speaks to its Italian heritage while maintaining the freshness and elegance that defines Tasmania.

This wine is ideal with antipasti, hard cheeses, and seafood dishes such as grilled fish or shellfish.
